|
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of parents’ psychological control on depression and social anxiety of children. Participants of this study were 185 children in fifth and sixth grades from two elementary schools at Seo-Gu and Dong-Gu in Daejeon. Data analysis was conducted by SPSS 18.0. The findings are as follows. First, no significant difference was found between the parents’ psychological control and the children’s social anxiety in terms of gender of the children. However, significant difference was found between the parents’ psychological control and depression of the children. Second, psychological control by the parents showed a positive correlation with depression and social anxiety of the children. Third, regression analysis found parents’ psychological control influenced depression and social anxiety of the children although no significant difference was found. Parents’ psychological control influenced depression and self-deprecation in the domain of depression and affected performance anxiety, negative evaluation, avoidance behavior, fear of strangers, non-assertiveness in the social anxiety domain.
